Winter Storm Leon

So, winter storm Leon is gone, nothing much happened, but I did get to see some sleet, but, there were no snow accumulations. Well maybe next winter. That's ok I don't think Houston would do good with snow. Houston is not used to snow and ice. Luckily the roads weren't as icy this time. I think they had more time to de-ice the roads this time.
It looks like they got it bad over in Atlanta. They had about 3 inches of snow and everybody got stuck in traffic, that's not fun.
Well it doesn't look like we are going to get any more winter storms this week.
We even got some days with highs in the 70's. I feel sorry for all of y'all in the north that are battling the cold. I hope it warms up for y'all real soon. Spring is about two months away!
Well that will do it for winter storm Leon. I don't think Houston will be getting anymore winter storms any time soon, so that will do it for now. Until next time! Signing off, see y'all later!

Pain And Gain

With my first T-shirt design submitted, I was happily working on many different designs, but when I submitted them they were right away declined, I kept on submitting, reworking and re-submitting my designs, but they kept on getting declined, so after about a couple of weeks of getting declined submissions, I started to feel some pain, but from that pain became gain. I learned that I didn't need to worry about getting my designs submitted and that I can enjoy the artwork that I made even if others didn't. So I created a new blog called Joseph'sweirdart@http://josephsweirdart.blogspot.com/ where I can show and share my designs and enjoy the artwork that I made.
The above drawings are called Living in Paradise, which is my latest design, that has been constantly declined. The first drawing at the top of the page is my first drawing of Living in Paradise and the last drawing is my latest drawing of Living in Paradise. I am still working on it and am hoping that it will get submitted when it is finished.

My Weird Art

Hey y'all. I know some of you like my art. I have been working on some designs that I didn't know where to put so I recently decided to put all of my artwork on a blow called "Joseph's Weird Art" I don't really think that my art is really that weird, but all of the names that I liked had already been taken, so anyway... If y'all like my art and want to see more you can come check out my new blog "Joseph's Weird Art!" http://josephsweirdart.blogspot.com/

Breakdown of Tuesday's Winter Storm

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 353 AM CST MON JAN 27 2014/

..ANOTHER ROUND OF WINTRY PRECIPITATION EXPECTED ON TUESDAY...

DISCUSSION...
AT 08Z...A WEAK PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH EXTENDED FROM EL DORADO
ARKANSAS TO JUST SOUTH OF WACO. WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE NW BEHIND
THE TROUGH AND THE TROUGH SHOULD BE APPROACHING CLL BY 11Z.
PATCHY DENSE FOG HAS DEVELOPED SOUTH OF THE PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH.
FEEL ONCE THE WINDS SHIFT TO THE NW...FOG SHOULD BEGIN TO
DISSIPATE. WILL WATCH TRENDS BUT DON`T THINK A DENSE FOG ADVISORY
WILL BE REQUIRED THE ACTUAL COLD FRONT STILL LAGS A BIT AND THE
FRONT EXTENDS FROM LITTLE ROCK TO FT WORTH TO ABILENE. MUCH COLDER
AND DRIER AIR BEHIND THIS FEATURE WILL SURGE SOUTH DURING THE DAY
AND MAX TEMPS WILL OCCUR THIS MORNING WITH FALLING AFTN TEMPS.
STRONG NORTH WINDS WILL DEVELOP IN THE WAKE OF THE FRONT AND A
WIND ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE WESTERN THIRD AND COASTAL
COUNTIES OF SE TX TODAY. COULD ALSO GET A FEW SHOWERS TO DEVELOP
ALONG THE FRONT A THE FRONT NEARS THE COAST LATER THIS MORNING.

A WINTER STORM WATCH WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR TUESDAY. COLDER AIR
WILL CONTINUE TO SURGE INTO SE TX OVERNIGHT. BY EARLY TUES
MORNING...AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL APPROACH SE TX AND THIS
FEATURE WILL GENERATE MIXED PRECIP ACROSS MOST OF THE AREA. FCST
SOUNDINGS SUPPORT A SLEET/FREEZING RAIN MIX OVER THE NORTH
CHANGING OVER TO SNOW BY MID MORNING. QPF NOT THAT IMPRESSIVE SO
SNOWFALL TOTALS SHOULD REMAIN LIGHT...PROBABLY 1-2 INCH TOTALS.
THE PRECIP WILL START LATER OVER THE SOUTH...PROBABLY MID TO LATE
MORNING AND PRECIPITATE THROUGH THE END OF THE AFTN. QPF LOOKS
MORE GENEROUS OVER THE CENTRAL AND UPPER COASTAL ZONES. THINK THIS
IS WHERE MOST OF THE TROUBLE WILL OCCUR. FCST SOUNDINGS SHOW A
WARM NOSE BETWEEN 3000-9000 FEET WITH SUB-FREEZING TEMPS BELOW
3000 FEET. MOST OF THE PRECIP SHOULD MELT ON ITS DESCENT AND THEN
EITHER FALL AS RAIN AND FREEZE ON CONTACT OR REFREEZE AND FALL AS
SLEET. LIQUID EQUIVALENT IS ABOUT 0.40 INCHES AND IF THIS FALLS
AS FREEZING RAIN...SIGNIFICANT ICING OF ROADWAYS AND POWERLINES
WILL DEVELOP. FCST SOUNDINGS ALSO SHOW SFC TEMPS FALLING INTO THE
MID 20S DURING THE PRECIP EVENT WHICH WOULD ALLOW FOR SOME
EFFICIENT ICE MAKING. FCST SOUNDINGS TREND COLDER IN THE LATE AFTN
AND SOME SNOW WILL PROBABLY MIX INTO THE MESS BEFORE THE PRECIP
ENDS QUICKLY TUESDAY EVENING. A HARD FREEZE WILL BE LIKELY
WEDNESDAY MORNING AND A HARD FREEZE WARNING WILL BE REQUIRED FOR
AT LEAST THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE REGION. THE ECMWF SENDS A PIECE
OF ENERGY EAST TOWARD THE MIDDLE TEXAS COAST ON WEDNESDAY MORNING
SO KEPT 20 POPS FOR THE FAR SW ZONES INTO WEDNESDAY. IT`LL BE COLD
ON WED AND MAX TEMPS WILL STRUGGLE TO WARM INTO THE LOWER 40S
UNDER FULL SUN.

A SUBSTANTIAL WARM UP BEGINS ON THURSDAY AND WILL LINGER INTO
SATURDAY. MOISTURE LEVELS ALSO INCREASE AND A FEW SHOWERS WILL BE
POSSIBLE BEGINNING SATURDAY AND PERSISTING THROUGH NEXT MONDAY.
CAN`T FIND A REAL TRIGGER FOR PRECIP TO FOCUS ON BUT DEEPER MSTR
COUPLED WITH WAA SHOULD YIELD SOME SHOWERS.

... WINTER WEATHER POSSIBLE ON TUESDAY...
A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL CROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS ON MONDAY MORNING. TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN STEADY OR SLOWLY FALL ON MONDAY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE TO FALL MONDAY NIGHT TO NEAR FREEZING BY TUESDAY MORNING. AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL APPROACH SOUTHEAST TEXAS ON TUESDAY. THIS FEATURE WILL GENERATE PERIODS OF LIGHT RAIN MIXED WITH SLEET. THE TEMPERATURE WILL CONTINUE TO FALL TUESDAY MORNING AND THE PRECIPITATION WILL TRANSITION TO SNOW MIXED WITH FREEZING RAIN AND THEN ALL SNOW NORTH OF A BRENHAM TO CONROE TO COLDSPRING LINE. SOUTH OF THIS LINE... THE RAIN AND SLEET MIXTURE WILL BECOME A FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET MIXTURE WHICH WILL TRANSITION TO A SLEET SNOW AND FREEZING RAIN MIXTURE BY MID AFTERNOON. PARTS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS COULD SEE ACCUMULATING SNOW BUT AMOUNTS SHOULD BE LIGHT. THE SOUTHERN HALF OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS COULD SEE SOME SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS BY TUESDAY EVENING. AREAS SOUTH OF I-10 COULD RECEIVE 0.15 TO 0.30 INCHES OF LIQUID EQUIVALENT WHICH WOULD FREEZE ON BRIDGES AND OTHER ELEVATED SURFACES. IF THIS SCENARIO UNFOLDS AS EXPECTED... SIGNIFICANT GLAZING OF ROADWAYS WILL BE POSSIBLE AND TRAVEL WOULD BECOME DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS.
PLEASE KEEP UP WITH THE FORECASTS. IT WILL ONLY TAKE A DEGREE OR TWO OF WARMING OR COOLING TO CHANGE THE PRECIPITATION TYPE. DRIER AIR AT THE SURFACE COULD ALSO AFFECT PRECIPITATION TOTALS. THE TRACK OF THE DISTURBANCE IS ALSO FAR FROM SETTLED AND IF THE DISTURBANCE TRACKS FURTHER SOUTH... MUCH OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS WILL REMAIN DRY AND THE PRECIPITATION WILL TRACK TOWARD THE MIDDLE TEXAS COAST. AT THIS TIME... IT DOES APPEAR THAT WINTER WEATHER WILL AFFECT MOST OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS ON TUESDAY. A WINTER STORM WATCH OR WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY WILL PROBABLY BE REQUIRED ONCE AGAIN.

Possible Sleet, or Snow This Tuesday?

There is now a 30% chance for a mix of rain and sleet, or snow on Tuesday. It's looking good so far, but we'll see! : )

More Winter Weather on The Way?

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 418 AM CST SAT JAN 25 2014/

DISCUSSION...
SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WAS LOCATED NEAR THE MIDDLE TEXAS COAST.
WINDS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THIS FEATURE ARE ALREADY FROM THE
SOUTHWEST. EXPECT A SW WIND TODAY AND CONSIDERABLY WARMER
TEMPERATURES. MAX TEMPS SHOULD APPROACH 60 BY THE END OF THE DAY.
SUNDAY WILL TREND EVEN WARM AS ONSHORE WINDS PREVAIL.

CONDS WILL DETERIORATE RAPIDLY ON MONDAY AS ANOTHER ARCTIC COLD
FRONT CROSSES SE TX. TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY REACH THEIR PEAK IN
THE MORNING AND THEN SLOWLY FALL DURING THE AFTERNOON IN THE WAKE
OF THE FRONT. THINGS GET INTERESTING FOR TUES/WED. STILL NOT
CONFIDENT IN TIMING...BUT ANOTHER WEAK DISTURBANCE WILL GENERATE
LIGHT RAIN OR RAIN/FRZ RAIN/SLEET MIXTURE ON TUESDAY AFTN INTO
TUES NIGHT. THE CANADIAN MODEL HAS BEEN BULLISH WITH RAIN CHANCE
FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS AND IS NOW SUPPORTED BY THE NAM AND
NOGAPS. THE GFS REMAINS THE DRY OUTLIER WITH SOME SUPPORT FROM THE
ECMWF BUT EVEN THE ECMWF IS TRENDING WETTER. ONCE AGAIN...THERMAL
PROFILES SUPPORT SOME KIND OF WINTER MIX AND AT THIS TIME...FEEL
THE FAVORED PRECIP TYPE WILL BE SLEET. THIS EVENT IS SEVERAL DAYS
AWAY SO WILL KEEP THINGS ALL LIQUID FOR NOW AND WAIT FOR A BETTER
CONSENSUS. A VERY COLD MORNING IS EXPECTED WEDNESDAY BEFORE A
STRONG WARM UP TO END THE WORK WEEK. A S/WV WILL CROSS SE TX ON
FRI AND THIS FEATURE WILL BRING ANOTHER CHANCE OF RAIN. 43

The NOAA weather forecasters are thinking that Houston might get another round of ice pellets, freezing rain, sleet, or maybe snow, Monday night, or early Tuesday morning. They only have a 20% chance of rain for Monday night and I think Tuesday morning, so that's not much, but they think if any precipitation does occur it might fall down as sleet. So not that great of a chance for winter precipitation, but just a slim one.
I'll keep y'all more up to date as we get closer to Monday and Tuesday, when the weather forecasters will have a better chance at figuring out if we are going to get any winter precipitation, or not, but right now it looks like there is just a slim chance for any rain, or winter precipitation for Houston Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Peace, I'll let y'all now if I find out anything new. Later!

Winter Storm Kronos Day 2

Well I didn't see any snow, or sleet....I think a drop of sleet might have fallen on my face, when I was out in the back yard of my house, during the beginning of 8 pm, but i'm not sure. The drop didn't feel like a rain drop, it felt like a sleet, or snow drop, so it might have been a sleet, or snow drop, but I couldn't tell, or see since the drop melted once it fell on my face.

Pictures of winter storm Kronos...

So not much snow, or sleet, but some ice crystals looked to have formed, at my house, sometime during the late morning. I had set my alarm clock to 6 am, hoping to see some sleet, or snow falling when I woke up, but when I woke up and looked out of my houses windows, only light rain, or ice pellets, or maybe freezing rain looked to be falling. I didn't start to see the ice crystals until around 11 am, so I am guessing that is around the time that they had formed. The ice crystals started to melt at around 11:30 am, so they weren't there for that long.
But the good news is that I don't think any of the roads froze over, they might have been a little bit slippery during the morning, but they looked to be mostly dried out by the afternoon. The weather forecasters are still asking drivers to be careful because of possible refreezing of the roads during the night. Light rain fell through out the Houston area from the late morning yesterday until early morning today, so the roads might still be wet and the weather forecasters are still worried about the roads possibly re-freezing during the night when the temperatures get back down into the low 30's, or maybe high 20's.
So that's it for winter storm Kronos!
Until next winter storm!
See y'all later!

Winter Storm Kronos

It's Coming.....
There is a reason why we have fireplaces in Houston.
Thursday Night's Forecast

Current Winter Weather Alerts
Winter storm Kronos!

I think that is cool that they name winter storms, although I wonder where they got the names from. I think they are from Greek gods, or something....
This is Houston's biggest winter storm since 2009. It is true that Houston has had some winter weather these past few years, since 2007, but they have been isolated incidents, but not major winter storms. Houston usually gets major winter storms every 5 to 10 years and they aren't really that major, except for Houstonians that aren't that used to winter weather.
We almost had another snow/sleet storm, in Houston, back in January of 2011, but most areas only saw just a few flurries. I don't think any of the areas in, or around Houston saw more than that. There might have been some isolated areas that saw some light snow showers, but that's it.
Houston almost got some snow/sleet back in 2010. My mom said that she saw some sleet about a mile away from our house, back in February of 2010, but I didn't see any sleet at our house. A big 1 inch snow storm passed through Houston back in December of 2009, which is probably the most that it has snowed in Houston, but i'm not sure. I wish I could see the records. I would like to know the record amount of snow that has fallen in Houston, since they started to take records. Nobody was saying anything special about records when the 1 inch snow storm passed over Houston back in December of 2009, so Houston might have gotten more than an inch of snow at one time.
But continuing on with the story.... Houston had a rain/sleet event back in 2008, but I think it only lasted about 30 minutes. Then back in 2007 Houston had a ice event that closed down most of Houston's schools. It was very minor. There were only a few roads that had ice.
Then in 2004 on Christmas eve, a sleet/snow storm passed over Houston and brought about .25, or less inches of sleet and some snow. There was a continual on and off sleet shower from sometime during the morning, or afternoon, on Christmas eve until around 1, or 2 am, on Christmas day. Most of the precipitation that fell on Christmas eve was sleet. Snow didn't start to fall until sometime during the late night, Christmas eve, or around 1, or 2 am, Christmas morning. So I guess Houston had sort of a white Christmas!
Then the earliest winter storm that I could remember Houston having was a ice storm back in January of 1997, I think, that brought thick ice of I think an inch, or more to Houston. Which was pretty bad.... I remember seeing "Watch For Ice" signs on many of Houston's bridge's after that storm. It took Houston awhile for them to want to take the signs down from the bridges. I think they might actually still be there, but they might have taken them down. I don't remember. It was a bad storm....Here's some information about it! (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/lch/?n=icestorm97)
And now back to 2014, I am glad that they are now naming the winter storms, like they do Tropical storms and Hurricanes, because now I can give y'all a better description of it, instead of saying that winter storm...I can now say winter storm Kronos and y'all can know what I am talking about.
Well Kronos is not much of a winter storm right now, but maybe later tonight, or tomorrow, I will be able to show y'all some videos of sleet, or maybe snow that fell. I hope no ice...the weather forecasters said on The Weather Channel that since the temperature was in the 60's in the morning and maybe early afternoon in Houston, that it will take awhile for the rain on the ground to turn into ice, but we still might get some freezing rain, which is rain that will immediately become ice once it reaches the ground, if the ground is at, or below freezing. So hopefully no ice.
Right now my Kestral says that it is 35 degrees and it looks to be raining, I didn't see any sleet, snow, or ice pellets. There were some reports of rain/snow mix near my house and there is a current recording of .01 inches of snow for Houston. There might have been some sleet, snow, or ice pellets falling outside of my house,, but I couldn't see. I am hoping that the rain will turn into snow as the temperature continues to drop, during the night. I hope to show y'all some videos and pictures of winter storm Kronos! Bye for now, talk to y'all tomorrow!

Round and Round.....

"Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is about a dream!"

That's all I could think of....

I don't know much about rowing, or round. Tires are round. I could write a story about how my round tire got flat, last March, while on my way to go go karting with a group of car people that I met on meetup.com. but i'm not sure how interesting that would be. Also I think I might have already written something about that. Wait! No I didn't!

My car's tire that had been popped.
I drew a smiley face while I was waiting for my parents.

As I was driving down the freeway, nearing the go kart place, I heard a pop and a warning light lit up on my car's dashboard. Not sure if it was anything, but thinking that it might have been my car's tire, I decided to exit the freeway and I pulled into a gas station. When I got out of my car and looked at the right rear, I saw that my car's right rear tire was flat. I called my parents and they helped me put the car's spare tire on and we drove to a NTB that was near our house and I got my tire changed. Where we then drove home, or to Denny's and then we drove home! : )

Cell Phones

I remember when my mom and dad first got a cell phone, back in the late 90's, they were as big as a house phone. Then in the early 2000's, we all had phones, my brother, little sister, older sister, and me, all had a phone and they were much smaller than a house phone, about an inch, or maybe a couple of inches thick. They could fit easily into someone's pocket. Also they now had games and different ring tones. Now phones are pretty much computers, i'm still using the regular phones though. Just to call and text, nothing else.
I like how phones have evolved over these past two decades, from house phones, to personal cell phones, and now pretty much computers. All you need in one! It's pretty interesting to see how most people went from not having that any cell phones to everybody having one. It was like a big boom, everybody now had one. I think even kids have them. Which I think is good, just in case they get lost, their parents can track them, or if they get hurt. It's better than trying to find a phone booth. Do they still have those?
I don't think that I have ever use one before, but I've seen them around though. There are usually some at gas stations and airports. Those are mostly the only places that I have seen phone booths. You can maybe still see them in old restaurants and places. Most people don't them because they all cell phones, but I guess they are good if your cell phone runs out of batteries, or gets lost, or stolen. I had my cell phone stolen a couple of months ago, when I gave a ride to a stranger and I was going to use one of those phone booths, but I decided to just drive home instead.
I was pretty upset, but that's ok, I got a new phone and i'm not going to give any more rides to strangers. Unless that stranger is a cat!

Time For a Trade!

The day was cold, it was -8 degrees when Kyle and his father drove to the used car dealership. Inside Kyle's father wasn't too happy about driving to the dealership in the snow and cold, but it was Kyle's 16th birthday and Kyle's father had promised Kyle he would get him a car for his birthday. Kyle's father wanted to have gone to get Kyle his car two weeks earlier when Kyle presented the idea to him, but Kyle's father had been up to his nose in paperwork, so he didn't have time to go car shopping and now it was Kyle's birthday. It was also Sunday.... But Kyle's father had made a promise to his son and he was going to keep it!
A harsh big gust of wind blew across Kyle's face as they both stepped out of  Kyle's father's warm, old Jeep Wagoner. The dealership didn't look to be opened, but they both decided to go take a look. Kyle had been reading the auto mags and his eyes were on the white 98' Camaro shoved way in the back. "That's the one that I want!" shouted Kyle. Kyle's father gave him a sharp piercing look. Did Kyle really not understand where he lived?
Minnesota had been under one of it's worst winters and Kyle's father was worried about his son driving around in a sports car in the ice and snow. "Ya Sure..." Grunted Kyle's father.
Kyle could sense his father's disapproval and thinking a little more about it, Kyle quietly agreed. The Camaro wasn't the only car that Kyle had been eyeing. There was an old dark green Toyota 4 runner parked near the front that had looked like it had been used to go off roading. It had big mud tires and mud flaps with a big, long CB antenna sticking out in the front. It had actually looked pretty cool and Kyle thought he would look pretty cool driving around with his friends in it. Kyle pointed towards the direction of the old 4 runner, his eyes glancing at his father. His father glanced back.
"Ok..." Said Kyle's father with a shrug. "At least it was better than the Camaro." Kyle's father thought to himself.
Kyle gave a big "Whoop! Whoop!" and ran towards the old 4 runner, while Kyle's dad walked toward the dealerships office. As Kyle's dad was walking towards the dealerships office, he noticed a flickering green and red neon open sign hanging on the window. Kyle's father pushed the door of the dealerships office open and walked inside.
Once inside the dealership's office, the dealerships manager giving Kyle's father a surprised look said "Hello?"
"Hi I am interested in buying that dark green Toyota 4 runner that you have parked outside."
"How much do you want for it?"
"How much are you asking?"
"sixteen hundred..."
"Deal!"
Kyle screamed with excitement! Kyle was now going to have his own car!
Also Kyle's dad was finally going to be able to get rid of his old red Jeep Wagoner. He traded it in for a thousand dollars to the used car dealership. Yes it was in good working condition, but it had seen better days and Kyle's father had been wanting to get rid of it, for quite awhile and now was his chance. Kyle paid the six hundred dollars left on the 4 runner, saved up from his weekly allowance and Kyle and his father both drove home happy in Kyle's new, old dark green Toyota 4 runner!
